Lizzie, Lizzie, Lizzie… What an amazing little girl you are!! 2 years ago today, your heart was literally in pieces and stitched back together again. Two years ago, we sat in the waiting room prayerful and hopeful for good news that all was well. And it was, but then it wasn’t… While your new heart was thriving your lungs, already over worked, went into shock and shut down, amongst other things. But you still fought. You fought like nobody I have ever seen. And you made it through.
I stand in awe of the miracles God continually works in you
No, it wasn’t “just like that”. And, yes, you about did this momma and daddy in (as well as her healthcare team/army). But, oh, how thankful we are for each and every moment this journey with you has provided. Granted, there are a few moments I’d like a do-over with, I may or may not have always had the best light illuminating from me during some of those darker days (sorry to all our hospital peeps). But baby girl you always managed to shine. You still do. We can all learn something from you.
Today, two years later, I stand in awe of the miracles God continually works in you. He has used your story to touch and encourage so many. Your nurses called you their little starfish because of how you insisted on positioning yourself. I cannot see a starfish without thinking of you. Most said there was no hope. Most said we were taking on too much. I wish they could see you now! You, one little starfish, have already made a ginormous difference in this great big world. Happy Heart Day, Susan Elizabeth. Keep shining, keep fighting, keep being you!
