Love Is An Open Door
Today as I sit and watch Frozen for the umpteen millionth time with my precious little girl, I mindlessly belt out every word to every song. Partly because Lizzie really likes when I sing, partly because it drives the boys nuts when I sing (for some reason they don’t appreciate my sweet Disney princess singing skills), and mostly because I just can’t Let It Go and get over the fact I’m too old to be an American Idol (like what I did there?). Anywho, one song really stands out to me. We sat in a hospital while the rest of the world experienced all things Frozen this time last year so we’re a few months behind everyone in this area. I may not be the first person to think of this but I haven’t read it anywhere else, so I’ll go with it. I sing it to Lizzie regularly even when the movie isn’t on. It sums our relationship up perfectly. Here are some of the lyrics to Disney’s “Love Is An Open Door”.
Okay, can I just, say something crazy?
I love crazy!
All my life has been a series of doors in my face
And then suddenly I bumped into you
I was thinking the same thing! ‘Cause like
I’ve been searching my whole life to find my own place
And maybe it’s the party talking or the chocolate fondue
But with you
I found my place
I see your face
And it’s nothing like I’ve ever known before….
Love is an open door
Seriously, how perfect is this song to describe the beauty of adoption? And it gets better. The gift of bestowing love to these children is truly like nothing you’ve ever known before. Though it opens your eyes to some of the worst, adoption changes you, from the inside out for the better. The chocolate fondue is just a bonus!
To the pain of the past
We don’t have to feel it any more
Love is an open door
Life can be so much more
Today is Orphan sunday and my heart hurts. There are countless scenarios that render children as orphans, whatever the reason we are ALL called to help. Life can be so much more for so many more, with you. Children shouldn’t suffer because of our mistakes and our incredibly broken world. We can’t continue to turn a blind eye. Saying goodbye to the pain of the past with these sweet little ones and watching them blossom into beautiful young men and women who are no longer alone or afraid is something we should all experience! I won’t lie, the journey is vigorous and at times overwhelming but the destination is the most exquisite thing you’ll ever be a part of. Francis Chan said it well, “But God doesn’t call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn’t come through.” Our God is with you, He opens the door, don’t be afraid to walk through it.
